A Little Bit About Us
Opened in 1947, by Edwin Faelker, as a lumber and building supply and seasonal contracting business, manufacturing concrete blocks in the winter when contracting work was slow for the foundations they installed.. Lumber came by train carloads and had to be unloaded or "hand-bombed" onto a truck and brought to the yard from the station. The store motto was: "a board or a building"
The business grew and was ran by Edwin's sons, Don and Alan Faelker They managed the retail and contracting end of the business until it was sold to a former employee, Ron Nickel in 1988. He expanded the store to include plumbing, electrical and hardware as well as lumber and building products. Remaining in the Nickel family, but owned and operated by the next generation, Adam & Brett Nickel and Nathan Spitzig, it continues to expand.
We have come a long way but we are still family owned and our motto is still: "a board or a building".
